Batuka es lejos lo mejor que hemos escuchado del disco Madame X. Con esta canción de Madonna te van a dar ganas de cerrar los ojos y dejarte llevar por el ritmo. En el video de la hipnótica Batuka vemos a Madonna de pelo negro –parecida a la Madonna de Rain y Like a Prayer– bailando para un grupo de mujeres que cubren sus cabezas con un pañuelo blanco, perteneciente a la verdadera orquesta de batukadeiras. Todas bailan juntas y terminan de la mano frente al espectáculo de la naturaleza, en la costa de Lisboa.
Como dice el texto con el que parte el video, Batuka es un estilo musical craedo por mujeres originarias de Cabo verde, considerado por algunos como el lugar donde nació la trata de esclavos.
La batuka fue prohibida por la iglesia, les quitaron los tambores a los portugueses, por considerarlo un acto de rebeldía, pero las mujeres mantuvieron la tradición y hasta el día de hoy la mantienen viva.
